Do we blame it on global warming? Do we blame it on the fact that they turned the clocks forward a month early?I'm as serious as poopla in baby diapers.....birds have been swooping at the cars around here. I also now start to hear them chirping at 5:30 am. That's 15 mins. before I leave for work.
I think I've mentioned before but just in case I haven't. I drive a school van. I know I'm out on the road a lot, but honest....the birds are swooping at the vehicles. Are the poor things lost? Is their time all thrown helter skelter, are they flying so low because of global warming?
I know my grandmother used to say that if a bird flew into your window that it meant a death in the very near future. (old wives tale) , (although, I've witnessed it myself).
If your still reading this, you're either laughing your tush off, or your ready to call the folks with the white jackets...but, I'm serious!!
I even asked a coworker yesterday, at first he laughed at me, and then he agreed with the crazy woman, then he said he also noticed more birds flying lower and lower.
I'm one of those people that needs an explanation, when my sister was receiving chemo, (we could talk about anything), I asked her if she thought a mosquito would die if it bit her while she was getting her treatments...yes.....she laughed, then said "hmmmm, I wonder".
I'm very interested in finding the answer to this question.

Well, I have heard that the drop in bee population might be because of all the cell towers effecting their flight patterns (throwing them off b/c they can sense interference in their path). I wonder if birds are sensing the cell tower signals?
Birds Swoop because it's nesting season ... I just googled it, inqiring minds want to know.. I'm like you I like to know the answers too.. now I have to find out about your mosquito question .. I'm curious...
Mar, we live in the south where we have the largest crane nesting area in the US and Jackie is right, it's nesting time. We were driving to Lafayette and a huge one flew right into our car---talk about messy yucky!
As for the mosquitoes, it doesn't matter who they bite, they die soon after biting you.
there is one type of bird around here that will just act completely crazy, flying in hordes in the road...makes it a nightmare tryin' not to hit one...or several...because then I'd be out picking up birds & carting the live ones to the vet...sigh...
with this one type (I have no idea), Mr G & I have noticed they act this way when it is hot enough to fry an egg on the pavement...
oh...only just, in the past couple of months, heard this old wives' tale...twice...and both of the people who told me believe it...
if you kill a snake & hang it in a tree, within 24 hours you'll have rain...
I've never heard the one about the bird before, but such things are interesting :)
Gee that is scary! Not sure what is going on with the birds... Our world sure is changing and sad to say not for the good. Yes, I too have heard that old wives tales about bird flying into a window and someone dying.. It's happened here twice now and I'm still alive. Take care and stay safe :-}~Mary~
Hi Mary, He is a Tebitian Spaniel. It is part of the Pekineese family. He is a Cute as can be with a Snaggle Tooth. All of our Animals have a Disfunction or Issue (as my kids call it) or they couldn't live in our Crazy house. We have a million birds now too. We have Swallows that come every year and make mud nest on houses and it is a big mess! Spring is the season for the birds...Jamie
Hi Mar, The birds might be after insects. They pick up on things quick and if they know the cars are hitting the insects then it could be easy pickings for the birds. Just one possible idea. We are having issues at the moment of a very loud singing Song Thrush that loves to sing from 3.30am to 10pm.... Grrrrrr
