DIY Projects And Midlife

There is something to be said about DIY projects when you are in your 50's. Now Mr. R and myself are fairly healthy, only go to the Dr. with the common cold, etc...But Good Lawdy, when it comes to home improvements, we are taxing every muscle in our bodies.. (that would be if we had some muscles from like exercise, etc...)!
We are installing (almost done) laminate flooring in our living room which is only 14' x 24'. I will never say again that it is small. Oh, we are also painting all the walls and the ceiling (now done) and when we are finished with the flooring, we will be putting up crown moulding, ( I hope), and some new wall trim. Here is the before picture of our very outdated living room. Don't I have a pretty view out my front window?

The instructions that came with the laminate flooring tell you to simply snap and lock in place. Ha ha...easier said then done. We have snapped our muscles in our backs and locked our knee caps....LOL not a pretty picture.
Of course we had to have the normal argument about who was right when it came to the seams in the flooring. I was tired of the entire conversation, and put in a call to my son at work, who has already installed this flooring in his own home, but.... he is still in his young 30's...it was a small 1 day project for him. He told us what he learned from installing his own, and came to see what we were getting accomplished, then the little sh*t went home??? What is wrong with this picture?? Here is a picture of the floor almost completed by two midlife adults who need a good massage, but we're too tired.

I told Mr. R that I wanted brown walls, so in order to convince him that they should be brown, I let him choose the color of brown. This one is called Picked Acorns by Kilz brand. He loves it why???? Because I let him pick it....LOL

The chair beside the fireplace is Mr. R's favorite chaise/chair/lounger from the 70's...yes, the 70's. Now to convince him that it would be really really nice in leather. Ha, I'll let him pick the color of leather. Every man that walks in this house say's, "now that's a chair", and there is one female that wants it willed to her...lol I don't particularly care for it because it's hard to decorate around, and also hard to get out of once your in it.

I got goodies in the mail this week, and in my spare time in the evenings, I've been going to auctions, but I'll save those to post tomorrow.
The first person that emails me and puts in the title of the email "It's Mine", will get this piece I got from auction, I know I've seen it on someones blog, but can't remember on who's. Please only ask for it if you have this collection. Email addy is on profile.

Ooops, I'm only temporarily using it as a pen/pencil holder...lol

I do like the brown color on the walls very much, that is a lot of work you are doing, but it looks great! I noticed a hummingbird feeder in your window (geez, am I nosey or what? LOL), do you get many of them visiting?
