Wow, I think maybe I should have stayed at home in the a/c. The weather was to be somewhat cooler and in the 80's, but it turned out to be humid and in the mid 90's. By the time the auction started at 9am, I was hoping they were fast talking auctioneers, and they were. But, I still ended up purchasing things on a whim, why I asked myself later, when it was time to drag it all across a big field and pack it in my friends truck. She purchased so much that I had to call Mr. R and ask him to bring our vehicle to the site to load some boxes in. She had all the huge old rusty wagon wheels & such on her truck. I purchased some old bottles, magazines, silverware and some vintage sewing things...that's it. I'm hoping the next Estate Auction will be in November and I'll need gloves...lol
Mrs. G. over at Life at Number 17 had a giveaway, and I won......Yippeee!!! So, I had some mail goodies this week. Here is what I received from Mrs. G.
Does anyone else sort their buttons by colors? Someone save me from what I think is turning into an OCD problem. I got some buttons at several of the auctions and decided to waste some time (take a break from DIY week), and sort my buttons by color, I naturally went with the white ones first. When I stopped, I looked at my hands....gross.....buttons are almost as dirty as money, but I truly love both...haha. Well, I had the brainstorm to cut off all the threads and wash my buttons....yes....wash my buttons. I put them in a colander and ran some soapy water over them.
They look, much much better now. Please someone else tell me that they do this also, or I'm stopping at the white ones for fear that I'll become compulsive with buttons...(rolling eyes)

Mary, So you have a bit of an Issue? Could be worse, I think Washing buttons isnt so bad? LOL. Your fine, My buttons are all mixed up all the time. I try to stay more organized and neat but my work area is a Disaster. Lucky you with the books too. Dont you love having goodies come in the mail? Hugs Jamie
Yes...I sort my buttons into colours...makes it a hell-of-a-lot easier when you want to use them in some sort of craft project...& if they were dirty I'd wash them too...why not?...I don't see a problem...that's wrong isn't it?
Love your buttons...
NettieP
Hello Mary, Yes I wash my buttons and take all the threads out and sort them by color :) I have an older post of my buttons... I do not like the heat either!!! My friend and I try to go in the spring and fall, or in an A.C. building.
Have a good week :)
I have BSS(button sorter syndrome) too. I only do this with the ones for craft projects, all the others can be tossed willy nilly in a jar.
I think your fairly normal.
I was going to confirm your OCD concern until I read the other comments. Now I think maybe I'm the strange one because I don't sort or wash my buttons. Guess I will start.
I love buttons ... Washing them is a great idea... I have a problem with buttons and fabric... I love them so much I'm afraid to use them... now isn't that sick! I have fabric and buttons I LOVE and am afraid to "waste" them .. so they sit around and I just keep looking at them wondering what I should do... LMAO
great button stash! and if it's OCD to sort them by color, we'll just be OCD together, lol!
Hiya:)
You wash buttons...that is too KOOL:-) I vacuum my garage...DH says I like a house "devoid of matter"...he better be careful or he may be next on my de-clutter list..haha
Found your lovely post thru Mary, Isabellascloset.
Thanks for the fun!
Hug Life, Marylou
Hi Mary! Love reading your blog! You are a delight! Thanks for visiting my blog! XOXO Lisa :)
*yawn*
It's already Thursday in your part of the world and you still haven't updated.
*yawn*
Mary, love the white buttons. Mom probably has a ton of them, not to mention boxes and boxes of fabric, lace, beads, ribbon. I still have buttons from my daughters clothes that I made for her when she was little and just can't part with them. Love the books---but I am a button freak also. Hugs, Pat
I have jars of old buttons from my grandmother and get them out and look through them but have never ever thought of washing them or sorting them. I'm thinking that will become my weekend project.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Sometimes you get the best stuff at the auction when it is too hot for everyone else!
I love that you had to call for a bigger car. I thought I was the only person who did stuff like that. LOL
Mary:
When I unpack all of my stuff I will finally take time to wash my buttons. I am just worried about the little painted glass ones. Maybe you know how I should clean them? Let me know when you have time.

Yep, I sort my buttons by color too, but I don't wash them until I need to use them on a project :)

Jeez woman....
Your blog is going to mold if you don't come back to it soon!
ha!
Mary- I do the exact same thing with my buttons- I like them so much better with no threads, and I wash them in the colander too. Your hands can get so DIRTY sorting buttons. By the way, the white buttons are GORGEOUS!
